Trois crayons
Examples of the technique with digital drawings.
Trois crayons is a drawing technique using three colors, usually red, black and white. The paper used may be a mid-tone color, grey, blue, or tan.
The technique works really nicely with my line drawing algorithm.
Personally, I have always been drawn to the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci or Rubens, or the two-color drawings of Pierre-Paul Prud'hon.
More recently, the robotic systems of Patrick Tresset or the "Floccular Portraits" of Golan Levin are clearly inspirational, whether in style, atmosphere, or expressiveness.
